Short CV

Geeta Thapa-Simrooglu has been an English Instructor for 3 years now. She first had the taste of teaching English while studying Bachelors of Commerce at Carleton University, Ottawa. She was a part of a team from Canada that volunteered to travel to a remote village of Nepal to install computers and teach the faculty on using them for school resources. However, due to a lack of electricity, she had lots of spare time. In the mean time, she volunteered to cover for an English Instructor and thus, began her passion for teaching English. That summer, she earned her TESOL certification and started teaching English to new immigrants in Ottawa. Her husband is Turkish and so they decided to moved to Izmir in 2013. She started her official teaching career from Karşiyaka Özel Takev İlkokulu ve Ortaokulu. In 2014, she earned her CELTA certification to further advance her skills. She worked at International House as an English instructor for a year and is currently teaching in the Prep Class at Yaşar University.
