Melek Atabey took her BA from Ege University, Press and Broadcasting School and then worked in local newspapers and TRT in İzmir. She finished her MA at the University of Leeds in Communication Studies and her PHD at the University of London in Media Studies. Following the completion of her studies in England she held teaching positions at Ege University, Faculty of Communications between 1999 and 2005, and at Eastern Medittereanean University, North Cyprus until 2012. She has joined Yasar University, Faculty of Communication, RCTV Department in February, 2012. Her research focuses on cultural representation and media, journalism, news production and international news, advertisements and ideology, and cultural identity, documentary cinema, environment, art and media, postcolonial and posthuman studies.
