Prof. O. Ozgur Egilmez, PhD, is currently the head of the civil engineering department at Yasar University. He received his B.Sc. degree (1990) in civil engineering from Middle East Technical University and M.Sc. degree (1991) from the University of Texas at Austin in structural engineering, working under the supervision of Dr. Ned Burns. Following his graduation he gained substantial professional experience working for more than 9 years in Russia and Turkey in several constructruction projects. In 2002 Prof. Egilmez began his Ph.D. research on structural steel, with a particular emphasis on stability of steel bridges, at the University of Houston under the supervision of Dr. Todd Helwig. After obtaining his Ph.D. degree at the end of 2005 he joined the faculty of civil engineering department at Izmir Institute of Technology, where he also obtained his associate professor title in 2011. From 2014 to 2017 Prof. Egilmez worked at Izmir University of Economics as head of the civil engineering department. In september 2017 he joined the faculty of Yasar University as head of the civil engineering department. Prof. Egilmez's research and teaching strengths are based on a relatively diverse academic and professional background. He has had research experiences that have included studies on structural steel as well as both reinforced and prestressed concrete structures. He has also worked in several TUBITAK, EC and NSF projects.
