Gizem Melek graduated from Ege University in 2007 where she studied Sociology and she holds an MA in Journalism International (Broadcast) from the University of Westminster in London, UK. In 2015, she earned her PhD in Journalism at Ege University. The title of her thesis was “A Study on Hürriyet and Twitter within the Framework of Intermedia Agenda-Setting”. Besides her academic work, she has 6 years of experience in the journalism and TV Production field. She worked for a news magazine, Izmir Life, as a correspondent from September 2003 to June 2005. During the time she was involved in the process of publishing a weekly tabloid newspaper, Izmir’de 7 Gun. In June 2005, she started to work for a nationwide television network and Turkey’s first news channel, NTV, as a correspondent where she was responsible for the entire Aegean Region and travelled many cities to report news. After working at NTV for 3 years, she moved to London in 2008 where she finished her MA degree. Later, she worked at the ITV’s London TV Centre with famous British TV personality Melvyn Bragg at the Specialist Factual & Arts Department which was producing the award winning “The South Bank Show”. Also in 2009-2010 she worked at the British Museum’s Broadcast Unit. Her duties involved assisting the production processes of the documentary series, “A History of the World in One Hundred Objects” in partnership with the BBC.
