Having completed her B.A. at the Department of International Relations, Middle East Technical University, she has completed her M.A at Johns Hopkins University and Ph.D at Bilkent University, Department of Political Science and Public Administration, where after 1999 she worked as Instructor and Assistant Professor. She was appointed as Associate Professor at Yaşar University, Department of International Relations in 2010 and Full Professor in 2014. She served as the Dean and Acting Dean of the Faculty Economics and Administrative Sciences between 2014-2022. At the present, she is the Dean of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences. Prof. Güney's academic studies are on the European Union, Turkish Political History, Turkish-American Relations, and she has given lectures on various dimensions of these issues. In addition, there are many national and international articles and book chapters published on the same subjects. Prof. Güney's most recent publications are co-edited volumes titled "Europeanization of Turkey: Politics and Policies" and "Europeanization of Turkish Public Policies", by Routledge in 2015 and 2016.
